- Presentation Summary: The South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project (www.southbayrestoration.org) is the largest tidal wetland restoration project on the West Coast. San Francisco Bay has lost an estimated 85 percent of its historic wetlands due to fill or other alterations. When complete, the project will restore 15,100 acres of former industrial salt ponds to a rich mosaic of tidal wetlands and other habitats, improve flood protection, and provide additional public access and recreation opportunities.
