BASK General Meeting, Sunday, January 28, 9-11 am
Location: Berkeley Yacht Club, 1 Seawall Dr, Berkeley
About: Join us for BASK’s first General Meeting of 2024, as we meet in person to welcome the new year. In addition to the usual BASK business, our featured speaker will be BASK’s own Katrin Tomanek, who will talk about her solo paddle this past summer up the Inside Passage, from Orcas Island, Washington all the way to Skagway, Alaska. That’s over a month of paddling days, and no weather days! Get inspired for your next kayaking expedition by hearing about Katrin’s adventure.
Katrin grew up in southwest Germany and moved to San Francisco in 2014. She came to the US for a job and in search for adventure and found both, so decided to stay. She is an avid cyclist and loves bike packing, and started her kayaking career with whitewater kayaking. As she prefers more endurance sports, she soon switched to sea kayaking and has done some 1-2 week kayaking expeditions in Glacier Bay, Hornstrandir Reserve in Iceland, the Channel Islands, and the Lost Coast. The Inside Passage trip that she’ll describe is her first longer expedition.
After the meeting, food will be provided, and there is a rescue clinic organized by our Safety and Education team. There may even be a paddle afterward as well—stay tuned, and check the BASK Calendar and Currents. Please sign up if you plan to attend so we can estimate the food we’ll need after the meeting.
