Wayne Horodowich will be presenting based on his book: Practicing Good Judgment—Adventurer’s Guide to Making Critical Decisions.
This interactive presentation is designed to help clarify and improve your judgment when making critical decisions on your next outdoor adventure. “It seemed like a good idea at the time” is one of my favorite sayings because I have used it more than I would like to admit. Said in another way, “Good judgment is learned through experience and experience is gained from bad judgment.” You can re-invent the wheel or choose to learn some lessons from others who have made good and bad choices. Practicing good judgment is a skill that can be developed if you have the right tools.
Wayne Horodowich is an experienced paddler, educator, and adventurer. He has been teaching sea kayaking since the early 1980s. During his 29-year tenure at UC Santa Barbara, Wayne developed the “Leadership Training Program,” which he used to train over one thousand guides. Wayne filmed and produced the popular University of Sea Kayaking “In Depth” Instructional video series specifically for sea kayaking. He actively teaches instructor/guide development clinics around North America and was a former captain of the U.S. Surf Kayak Team. He is the founder of the University of Sea Kayaking, an organization for the promotion of sea kayaking education, which hosts an incredible web site (www.useakayak.org) providing an educational resource to sea kayakers.
Recently Wayne has published two books. The first is the update to Derek Hutchinson’s The Complete Book of Sea Kayaking, 6th Edition, which is the 40th Anniversary of Derek’s first book on sea kayaking. The second and more recent book is, Practicing Good Judgment—Adventurer’s Guide to Making Critical Decisions, where Wayne reviews the intricacies of making decisions and includes numerous scenarios for the reader to use as practice in the decision-making process.
