Join us for a virtual meeting to hear the latest club news, and enjoy our featured speaker, Aijun Zhang, describing the new Bay Area Current Forecasting System: "Overview of NOAA’s Coastal Ocean Operational Forecast Systems and Forecast Products in San Francisco Bay."
You'll want to join promptly at 6 pm because we'll start with our featured speaker, as he is on the East Coast. After his talk, we'll also recognize new members and introduce upcoming paddles, as well as cover any new club business.
Aijun Zhang is a team leader from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Ocean Service, and will be presenting on his group's efforts to develop and implement 15 coastal ocean Operational Forecast Systems (OFS) in the past 20 years based on community ocean models.
These OFS provide valuable forecast guidance for the maritime community in various applications such as navigation efficiency and safety, emergency response and rescue, ecosystem forecasting, and most importantly for BASK, recreation!
His presentation will give an overview of the current status and development of these new capabilities, and how and where to access the OFS products. He'll also demonstrate the visualization from OceansMap and web pages from the San Francisco Bay Operational Forecast System (SFBOFS).
These systems have been invaluable for all of our Bay Paddlers, and have been integrated into BASK's Trip Planner. They will continue to be of great use for every Bay paddler, especially during the upcoming Gonzo Paddle!
Zoom details: As usual, Zoom details will be posted on the BASK calendar on the day of the meeting. Please be sure your first and last name are entered as your participant name.
