Featured Presentation

  • Topic: Baykeeper Protects the Bay (and Kayakers!) from Pollution
  • Presenter: Sejal Choksi-Chugh of San Francisco Baykeeper
  • Presentation Summary: Sejal will speak about Baykeeper’s vision to make the San Francisco Bay the cleanest urban estuary on the west coast. Sewage, trash, and oil spills can all be harmful to Bay swimmers and kayakers. Sejal will highlight some of Baykeeper’s science, advocacy, and litigation victories to protect the Bay and will describe ways that kayakers can help make the Bay safe and healthy for both recreation and wildlife. She will also give BASK an early insider’s look at next spring’s on-the-water celebration of San Francisco Bay—the 2016 Bay Parade.
Sejal Choksi-Chugh, J.D., Executive Director and Baykeeper, leads Baykeeper's high-impact policy, science, and litigation programs to protect San Francisco Bay. She joined the Baykeeper team in 2002, and has spearheaded the charge to reduce agricultural pollution, industrial runoff, sewage overflows, mercury contamination, and oil spills in the Bay. She serves on the Board of Directors of California Coastkeeper Alliance, our statewide network of Waterkeeper organizations protecting California's waters, and holds a permanent seat on the Waterkeeper Council of the international Waterkeeper Alliance. In 2015 she was honored with the UC Berkeley Ecology Law Quarterly's prestigious Environmental Leadership Award.

If you need to drive, parking west of Mission St. is recommended. There are two parking garages in the area. For trip planning information, see the Women's Building contact page.
