The BASK website now has a way for you to find other members who share your paddling interests! You can list your own paddling interests in your member profile. Each interest will appear as a hyperlink that you can click to display a list of other members who have also entered that interest.
Some examples of interests are:
- The types of paddling you like to do and the conditions you prefer: calm water, rough water, rock gardening, tidal races, lakes, sloughs
- Areas in which you have expertise or would like to become proficient: rescues, towing, forward stroke, rolling
- Ancillary interests: bird watching, photography, coastal cleanups, boat repair, DIY gear
- Specific locations where you like to paddle or would like to paddle: Angel Island, Tomales Bay, Mendocino, Lake Tahoe, Baja
After you set up your own paddling interests, you can click them to bring up a list of other members who have also entered those interests. You can also search for members with shared interests by entering words and phrases in the Paddling Interests box on the Search the BASK Online Directory page.
For a full list of example interests, along with instructions and tips, visit the Connecting to Paddlers Who Share Your Interests page. (In the left menu, select Membership > Your Paddling Interests.) You may wish to have this page open in a separate web browser tab so that you can refer to it while you edit your profile. The list of example interests is preliminary, and will likely change over time as we find out more about the interests listed by various members.
After you find out who else in the club shares your interests, it's up to you to act on that knowledge by initiating a paddle, starting a Buzz discussion, connecting by email, or talking to your fellow paddlers the next time you see them in person. We hope you enjoy this new website feature, and if you have any questions or suggestions, please write to the Communication Technology Committee.
